VERTEBRATES PROJECT

VERTEBRATES PROJECT
TEAM WORK
INSTRUCTIONS
You have to do a project of one class of vertebrates. You will work in teams of 4-5 people. You will explain your project to the rest of the class for around 20 minutes. I will give you a mark for your poster and your oral presentation.
What do you have to put on your project?
1. Organise the info in 2 parts:
·        The first one must show the general characteristics of the class of Vertebrates you are dealing with, including:
o       Habitat and Main body parts.
o       Feeding, breathing, reproduction, embryonic development, thermoregulation.
o       Groups
·        The second one is about your species (you choose the species you want). It must include:
o       Complete classification of the animal: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species.
o       Main characteristics and/or curiosities, like habitat, nutrition, reproduction, social behaviour, or if the species is endangered.
·        Include at least 3 REFERENCES (where did you find the information?), apart form your text book (other books, web pages…)
2. You have to put the info in a C-MAP, so write CONCEPTS (1-2 words), not long paragraphs. Then you will have to explain the concepts of the c-map. The information must be in your head and not on the paper.
3. Include relevant PICTURES or DRAWINGS.
4. Everything must be readable from the last row of the classroom (EXTRA LARGE SIZE).
How to organise your work?
1st step: decide who is going to do each part.
2nd step: Read the info on your book and look for information about the species. Write a DRAFT with the info and pictures you want to put on the project and the info you need to memorize to explain it in front of the class. You will have to deliver this draft the day of your presentation, so DON’T THROW IT AWAY!
3th step: Decide with your group how to organize the information on the poster.
4th step: Make the poster

How to present your poster to your classmates?
1. You CAN'T READ what is on your project (actually, the information should not be in your poster).
2. The presentation must take 4-5 MINUTES PER PERSON, and must be informative and entertaining.
3. You will have to explain the part of the project I CHOOSE, and it will be different to the one you have prepared. That means you will have to learn all about your poster, not only the part you have prepared.
What am I going to take into account to give a mark?
1. Good presentation: visually pleasing, well organised, appealing, full of colour, with no spelling or grammar mistakes.
2. Clear c-map.
3. Correct information.
4. Individual explanation: You know what you are talking about, you are not reading…
5. Work and effort: you can show this with the DRAFT you have done.
When are you going to prepare all of this?
We will use one class at school and you will have to do the rest at home (don’t wait until the last moment)
When will you do your presentations?
Every day 2 groups will present their project. Note down on your agenda the day of your presentation. Don’t forget it!
